This document specifies requirements to be met by a management system for records (MSR) in order to support an organization in the achievement of its mandate, mission, strategy and goals. It addresses the development and implementation of a records policy and objectives and gives information on measuring and monitoring performance.
An MSR can be established by an organization or across organizations that share business activities. Throughout this document, the term "organization" is not limited to one organization but also includes other organizational structures.
Similar in structure to the management systems addressed in other international standards, e.g. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, ISO 30301:2019 specifies the fundamental guidelines for a management system for records (MSR). It has a wide range of applicability, as it can be used by any organization that intends to establish, implement, maintain, and improve an MSR to support its business, assure itself of conformity with its stated records policy, and demonstrate conformity by taking a self-assessment or self-declaration, seeking confirmation of its self-declaration by a party to the organization, or seeking certification to its MSR by a certification body such as Gabriel Registrar who, upon verification that an organization is in compliance with the requirements of ISO 30301, will issue an ISO 30301 certificate.
